Are you ready to take on a unique role where hands-on craftsmanship, leadership, and real impact come together? We’re looking for a Manager Atelier to lead the daily operations and future development of the Vlisco Atelier in Benin.

In this role, you’ll be right at the center of the action — combining your technical tailoring skills with a strong sense of leadership and teamwork. You’ll guide a passionate team to deliver high-quality garments while helping to build a space where tailoring professionals across Africa can grow and learn.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Atelier Management

  • Supervise daily atelier operations, ensuring smooth coordination of production and resources, managing timelines, output targets, and overseeing budget allocation and cost control;

  • Managing a team of tailors, pattern makers, and support staff, with a strong focus on clear communication, structure, and motivating team members.

Technical Expertise

  • Bring deep technical knowledge in pattern making, garment construction, and fabric treatment, with a focus on precision, fit, and high-end finishing;

  • Oversee fittings and quality checks, ensuring all garments meet the highest standards before delivery.

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Translate design ideas into actionable technical instructions, including pattern development and construction plans;

  • Develop time and resource assessments along with a structured production schedule to ensure on-time delivery and alignment with project deadlines.

Training & Development

  • Actively contribute to shaping the vision and strategic direction of a Center of Excellence, positioning it as a hub for craftsmanship, technical knowhow, and growth of the fashion ecosystem;

  • Host regional knowledge-sharing initiatives for tailors from surrounding communities, contributing to a broader ecosystem of excellence;

  • Encouraging the personal and professional development of employees through hands-on guidance, trainings and structured learning.

Job requirements

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Fashion Production of Fashion Technology, or from a reputable (technical) fashion school;

  • 5+ year of relevant work experience with a proven track record in atelier management, including leading teams of tailors and pattern makers;

  • Fluent in French; proficiency in English is a strong asset;

  • Demonstrated management experience with a positive, hands-on leadership style that motivates and team members while maintaining a strong focus on performance and continuous improvement;

  • Strong planning and production / project management skills, with the ability to coordinate a diversity of resources, timelines, and output targets effectively;

  • Advanced expertise in pattern making, cutting, measuring, and garment fitting;

  • In-depth technical proficiency in machine and hand sewing, with experience in diverse fabric types;

  • Willing and prepared to relocate and reside full-time (40-50 hours per week) in Benin.
