    • Helmond, Noord-Brabant, Netherlands
  • Internship

Job description

ABOUT THE JOB AND ABOUT THE TEAM

During this project, you will work on an innovative computer vision challenge within Vlisco. The goal of the assignment is to adapt the Segment Anything Model (SAM) to Vlisco’s blocking process in order to significantly improve image segmentation quality. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of experts in data science, technology, and design, and you will have the opportunity to translate cutting-edge AI research into a practical, real-world application.

This internship offers a hands-on experience in applying state-of-the-art deep learning models within an industrial and creative context.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collecting, structuring, and cleaning Vlisco design and blocking data;

  • Defining labeled data, including decisions on using blockings and/or “plukkanalen”;

  • Working with both labeled and unlabeled data and addressing inconsistencies;

  • Designing and balancing a high-quality dataset for model training;

  • Developing and implementing an effective (semi-supervised) fine-tuning strategy for the Segment Anything Model (SAM);

  • Handling computational challenges, including image rescaling and working within the 1024×1024 input constraints of SAM;

  • Creating test datasets and defining appropriate evaluation and accuracy metrics;

  • Evaluating model performance against existing blocking methods;

  • Integrating the trained model into a prototype application.
