Internship for Chemical Engineering students as of february 2019

Description

Vlisco is well-known by its wax-products and unique processes. Wax will be pressed on the cloth partly to create certain patterns. Then, the cloth is painted by a base color (e.g. indigo) and the non-wax parts will remain blank. When the patterns are created, the fabric has to be dyed with other colors. Before dyeing, the wax should be removed using a solvent; so-called dewaxing process. Due to quality and safety restrictions, cloth has to be solvent free before entering the next dyeing phase. This process has to be optimized or most likely fully designed again.

As an intern you will play an active role within a small team (3 members) for the development of a new dewax-process. Main goal will be developing a process on lab-scale where own ideas and input are appreciated.

The solvent which has to be removed from the fabric has already selected. As a student chemical engineering, you will mainly use your engineering/physics skills in the R&D laboratory. You can investigate current drying and washing procedures and gain inspiration for the new process. You are not afraid to be pro-active, share ideas and questions with your supervisor or team members.

Based on the output of the assessment, Vlisco can simulate the developed process for larger scale and select third parties for engineering a new factory.
